Georgia Behavioral Health Services Receives Grant from Macon-Bibb to Build Houses Designed for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities

The Macon-Bibb consolidated government executed a contract to commit $550,000 of Home Investment Partnership (HOME) funds targeted for this community to Georgia Behavioral Health Services, Inc., a local not for profit, to construct two homes specifically tailored to support adults with intellectual disabilities.

Greta O’Dell, Director of Developmental Disability Services for River Edge Behavioral Health Center, said, “We are delighted that this partnership will make available brand new specially designed homes for adults who choose River Edge to support their achieving meaningful independence in Macon.”

Cass Hatcher, Director of Facilities and Housing Development for River Edge outlined that the new homes will feature zero step entry, universal and green design features to maximize accessibility, and affordability.

“We are honored by the ongoing partnership with the Macon-Bibb Office of Economic and Community Development,” said Shannon Harvey, Chief Executive Officer of River Edge.  “Together, we have already revitalized key areas of Macon.  This newest investment helps River Edge live its mission to make life better in a new neighborhood.  Too, developing these new homes is a nice complement to the next evolution of the River Edge service line:  The Growing Center, a developing center of excellence in horticulture therapy first targeting providing new opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities.”
